I’m Still Here is based on the real life stories of five Montreal women who immigrated to Canada. From these interviews emerged Ana’s story, a widow and mother with a passion for piano.  Written by Margarita Romero (Brooming Out) and directed by Deanna Dobie (Bedbugs, The Crackwalker, Lost and Found). I’m Still Here stars Margarita Romero as ANA. The creative team behind I’M STILL HERE includes Ishelle Macz stage manager, Rachael Picard assistant stage manager Deborah Sullivan and Ishelle Macz designers.
Set in the present day, Ana, a young journalist, reflects on her life in Peru and her eventual immigration and new life in Canada. After arriving in Montreal she finds herself working at a series of service jobs, waitressing in various restaurants. The title, I’m Still Here, represents Ana’s sentiment when she is unable to find a job in her field, journalism. The concept of being invisible is addressed when Ana is confronted with less than ideal situations, attitudes and judgments in her new surroundings.

Margarita Romero (Playwright) was born in Lima, Peru where she studied at the Theatre School of Universidad Católica del Perú. She immigrated to Canada in 2005 and recently graduated with a Major in Theatre (BFA) from Concordia University.
