EVENT: Teaching Hamlet (Fringe 2011)

TEACHING HAMLET

“Teaching Hamlet” is a new comedy written by Keir Cutler, the award-winning author of “Teaching Shakespeare.” After writing and performing eight consecutive monologues dating back to 1999, Keir has penned a comic two-hander. “Teaching Hamlet” features an actor and an intellect facing-off in a battle of wits over Shakespeare and his greatest play.  Starring Brett Watson, as the actor, and Keir Cutler, as the intellect, this world premiere production is directed by Paul Hopkins, the Artistic Director of Repercussion Theatre.

Keir Cutler has performed his monologues across Canada, in New York City and other American cities. Four of his solo shows have been broadcasted on television by BRAVO!/CANADA. He has been called "a masterful entertainer," (Winnipeg Free Press)
"a marvel to watch," (Toronto Sun) and "formidably delightful," (Off-Off Broadway Review, New York)  He’s earned a Ph.D. in theatre from Wayne State University in Detroit, a playwriting diploma from the National Theatre School of Canada and has a B.A from McGill University.  This is Keir’s 11th appearance at the Montreal Fringe Festival.

Director Paul Hopkins has been the Artistic Director of Repercussion Theatre since 2007.   Repercussion Theatre is best known for its HYPERLINK "http://www.repercussiontheatre.com/index.php/productions/park/"Shakespeare-in-the-Park summer theatre tour.  Paul has been performing Shakespeare for more than 20 years, including two seasons at Stratford Shakespeare Festival.  He is also well known for his many television and film roles.  This summer he will be performing the role of MacBeth in a park near you.

Brett Watson is a veteran actor of many roles on stage, television and film.  Some credits include Mercutio in “Romeo and Juliet,” and Lucerne in “Paradise By The River” at the Centaur Theatre.  He recently appeared in Porte Parole’s “Sexy Beton.” at Theatre Denise Pelletier.
