Review: Conquer Your Mountains (Fringe)

by Chris Lane
If a comedic and motivational one-man show sounds like something you would enjoy, then you can look forward to seeing Michael Lifshitz’s show, Conquer your Mountains. If that doesn’t really sound like your cup of tea – to be honest, perhaps it isn’t.

Michael Lifshitz lives his life with Multiple Congenital Musculoskeletal Abnormalities, but that hasn’t stopped him from living a full and very successful life working in finance, motivational speaking and comedy. In his show, he talks to the audience about how he has conquered his own mountains by following a few simple mantras, which he encourages the rest of us to follow as well.

Lifshitz is an engaging speaker and keeps the audience laughing with him as he shares the lessons that he has learned from his own experiences. The lessons are not exactly groundbreaking, but rather helpful reminders of what many a motivational calendar has told us. That being said, it is always interesting to hear some anecdotes from someone whose life experience is greatly different from one’s own, and he is good at keeping the mood light with one of the world’s best medicines: humour. And while motivational speakers sometimes charge quite hefty prices, at least Lifshitz’s advice, like his introductory video, is comfortably low-budget.
Conquer your Mountains might not inspire you to go achieve your wildest dreams, but it is at least a light-hearted nudge in the direction.

  1. Saw the show and was LMFAO during most of the show. The guy is really funny and pretty insightful. Made me rethink my viewpoints on the disabled ;)
